Illinois PSA: Remember, this isn’t Arizona

(Yup. Photo from 2DayBlog.com)

The Chicago Tribune reports that a 28 year old man was arrested without incident after walking into the Harrison (11th) district Police Station with loaded AR-15 assault rifle and declaring martial law, shortly before 4a.m. this morning. So please, if it any other poor souls out there are confused, you live in Illinois, not ArizonaIllinois and Chicago gun laws are much different than our immigrant-loving, freedom-defending brothers and sisters to the west.

For more details, read the Tribune’s report.

"Mayor Rahm Emanuel is dumping all three city members of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority — including former Mayor Richard M. Daley’s nephew — in a housecleaning that could set the stage to renegotiate the White Sox lease, modify its restaurant deal and, possibly, have the state acquire and renovate Wrigley Field."

Sun Times City Hall Reporter Fran Spielman reports that Mayor Rahm Emanuel is dropping all three city members of of the Illinois Sports Facilities Authority board, including a nephew of his predecessor, in a move with many potential ramifications. Read More

Lost footage of baby Rahm Emanuel discovered

Unearthed video footage of a young Rahm Emanuel. Note that the controlling nature and competitive drive were present even then. We guess that it is true that leaders are born, not made. Is it possible that this was leaked from inside the mayor’s inside circle as a threat to the Chicago Teacher’s Union?

Emanuel backs off of some proposed budget cuts

(Awww, you know I wouldn’t gut Chicago Public Libraries that badly, kiddo.)

The Chicago Tribune’s Hal Dardick reports on Clout Street, that Mayor Rahm Emanuel is compromising on his initially proposed budget with approximately $10 million in changes. Notably, the Mayor says that he is seeking to reduce the amount by which car city stickers will be raised as well as cutting less from the operating budget of the Chicago Public Libraries. Emanuel’s initial budget called for cutting $8.6 million from the day-to-day operations of the CPL but now is proposing a budget that would cut $3.3 million less, allowing for the libraries to cut 100 less employees and to stay open longer on non school days. Read Dardick’s story for the full report.

Miguel Del Valle is back - Insists it’s about the message, not himself

By Elias Cepeda

As an IL. State Senator for nearly two decades, Miguel Del Valle cultivated a reputation as a liberal idealist that also could also work reasonably and compromise with peers of all political stripes. But as a candidate for Chicago Mayor this past year, Del Valle – who held the City Clerk position during the campaign – found himself unable to garner enough attention to provide a challenge to Rahm Emanuel’s steam roller campaign.

During his election night concession speech this past February, Del Valle pointedly declared that he would not take part in the Emanuel administration.

The millionaires with Mayor Emanuel’s ear

The Chicago Reporter’s ace political reporters Ben Joravsky and Mick Dumke have an interesting new report out profiling Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s propensity to make more time to meet with millionaires than almost anyone else. They also chronicle how difficult it can be for this information to ever see the light of day.

That an incredibly good fundraiser like Emanuel makes time for the people that make his elections possible is hardly shocking, but as is usually the case with Bemke (Bumke? Joravke? I’m really pushing for a celebrity couple type name for these two guys. Any suggestions from the US Weekly crowd?), it’s an impressively detailed and specific account of the numbers that is new and useful.
